Founded in 2016, Onebed engineered their original 10” mattress with one thing in mind: create a mattress that suits most- if not everyone’s- needs. With its adjustable layers design, the Onebed 10” will fit the bill whether you’re a memory foam diehard fan or a latex lover.
The customisation feature means that everyone can dial down to a firmness level they enjoy regardless of their body size and sleeping positions. And because this is an online-only mattress, Onebed is able to eliminate all overhead costs that come with flashy showrooms, marketing gimmicks, and commission salespersons. Thus, they offer a high-quality mattress at a reasonable price.
Our Onebed mattress review found it to be ideal for:
Individuals across all sleeping positions
Customers weighing up to 105 kg
Online buyers not sure of their perfect firmness feel
Couples who prefer a mattress with minimal motion transfer
Individuals seeking a latex or memory foam mattress at a budget
Onebed Original 10” Mattress Firmness
Most mattress brands come in only one firmness feel that everyone has to make do with. Most of them are usually medium, medium-firm, or firm. With their Original 10” mattress, Onebed seeks to challenge the industry with a mattress that lets users choose from three firmness feels.
The Onebed 10” has a customisable firmness design. You can choose between medium, medium-firm, or firm by changing the position of the three layers.
The Onebed mattress is medium-firm in its default configuration (latex layer on top). Our review team rated this setup 6.5 out of 10, with 10 being firmest. Moving the memory foam layer to the top gives you a medium feel that we scored 5.5 on the 10-point firmness scale.
There’s also an option to use the high-density support core as the primary comfort layer. This was the firmest setup in our original Onedbed mattress review, with a rating of 7.5.
Owing to its structure, latex is firmer than memory foam and doesn’t let you sink too deep. On the other hand, though polyfoam is less dense than latex, the high-density polyfoam layer is considerably thicker. Hence, it feels firmer when placed on top. But keep in mind that polyfoam breaks down considerably fast, so the firm feel may not last for long. The high-density polyfoam layer in this mattress is better used as the foundation.

Onebed 10” Mattress Layers
The Original Onebed mattress has three foam layers that total a height of 25cm or 10”. As already mentioned, this mattress arrives with the latex layer on top. But the layers can be switched, depending on the sleeper’s firmness needs and personal preferences.
Here’s the low-down on how the Onebed original mattress is constructed.
Cover- a dimpled polyester cover. The original 10” mattress uses the same polyester cover that Onebed uses for its other mattresses. Polyester is incredibly strong and durable. We also like that it’s wrinkle-resistant. This feature is particularly important because the original Onebed mattress cover is removable and machine washable. Polyester is not as breathable as cotton or Tencel. But it’s much more affordable, and we reckon this helps keep the overall price of the mattress down.
Comfort layer- 4cm Dunlop latex. Like memory foam, latex also contours your body shape. But it’s elastic and more responsive, so it doesn’t sink or sag easily under your weight. This buoyant supportive sensation makes you feel weightless. If you dislike memory foam due to its tendency to cocoon you while asleep, latex doesn’t do that. As the less refined type of latex, Dunlop latex is denser and, therefore, has more support than Talalay latex. Its high density also makes it significantly more durable.
Transition layer- 4cm high-density memory foam. In its default location, this visco elastic foam acts as a transition layer to provide deeper contouring to relieve pressure points. For people who sleep exceptionally hot at night, having the memory foam layer in the middle helps keep heat retention to a minimum. Memory foam is squishier and less resilient than latex, though. If you prefer a sleeping surface with more profound body contouring, using the memory foam layer at the top will do the trick.
Core support- 17cm high-density foundation layer. Most all-foam mattress brands use high-density polyurethane for the foundation layer because of its consistent firmness and counterpressure that minimises excessive sinkage. When used as the support core, this dense polyfoam creates an even sleeping surface, promoting proper body alignment.
The Onebed 10” is one of the most popular mattresses in Australia. This productreview.com.au award winner has received quite a favourable rating on the consumer opinion site, with 2k+ five-star ratings.
Moving on with our Onebed 10” mattress review, we give you a glimpse of what to expect in terms of temperature regulation and pressure point relief, among other things.
Onebed 10” mattress cooling
Most Onebed mattress reviews on product.review.com.au state that it doesn’t sleep hot. But we also came across several complaints regarding heat retention. All-foam mattresses have a reputation for sleeping hot. But latex, memory foam, and polyfoam are created differently, so they perform differently as far as cooling is concerned. In other words, how hot your Onebed mattress feels will depend on which layer is at the top.
Unlike memory foam, latex does not hold onto your body heat, so it’s more likely to maintain a neutral temperature. It also has pinholes that make it generally more breathable. We strongly believe using the Onebed mattress in its initial setup will be the best idea if you sleep hot.
Onebed 10” mattress back pain
With three firmness options, it’s easy to see why most sleepers say the Onebed has helped with their pre-existing neck and back pain issues. The memory foam layer will be the best for people with pressure-aggravated back pain. That’s because it contours closely to your body shape to relieve pressure points and support your spine's neutral alignment.
Having the latex layer on top will also help, especially if you dislike feeling trapped by memory foam. Like memory foam, latex also cradles your body to provide cushioned support for a truly relaxing night. And it does that without the sweaty, cocooned feeling of memory foam.
Onebed 10” mattress motion transfer
Motion isolation is one of the areas that the Onebed original 10” mattress performs best. Regardless of the layer at the top, you can expect not to feel your sleep partner’s movements from the other side. The foam layers absorb your partner’s movements as they rotate or change sleeping position, significantly lowering the level of disturbance.
As a result, the Onebed 10” mattress is a good mattress for couples, especially where one is a light sleeper.
Onebed 10” mattress review edge support
Broadly speaking, all-foam mattresses have poor edge support because they lack a supportive spring system. But how an all-foam mattress performs in this regard partly depends on the type of foam layers and firmness. In its initial configuration, with the latex layer on top, the Onebed slightly outperforms most all-foam mattresses.
Latex generally has better edge support than memory foam and polyfoam. Narrowing down to latex, Dunlop tends to hold up better than Talalay. You may experience some sinkage while sitting or sleeping along the bed's perimeter, but the mattress won’t collapse as softer beds do.
Original Onebed mattress for sex
Couples have varying opinions when it comes to the best mattress for sex. Latex has a lot of perks when it comes to sex.
First, it provides cushioning support and good contouring, ensuring decent traction. Couples that enjoy maintaining one sex position for long will appreciate this a lot. Secondly, latex is considerably bouncier than memory foam. The bounce factor makes it possible to change sex positions easily, besides helping create and maintain rhythm. Additionally, the original Onebed mattress doesn’t make noise.
One downside of having sex on an all-foam mattress like this is heat retention. But this will affect hot sleepers the most. Its average edge support may also limit you to particular sex positions only or force you to huddle in the middle of the mattress.
Onebed original mattress review off-gassing
Yes- the Onebed 10” mattress will emit a chemical smell when you first unwrap it from the packaging. But it shouldn’t be overwhelming for most people. Almost all mattresses with foam components produce odours when new. The smells are due to the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) escaping from the mattress into the air. But they are non-toxic and temporary. You can hasten the off-gassing phase by increasing airflow in the room or leaving the mattress outside to let it breathe.
Onebed Mattress Review Sleeping Styles
So far, our Onebed review has covered this mattress’s construction and how it performs on various key fronts. It’s time we talk about how sleeping on the Onebed original 10” mattress feels in different sleeping positions and across different body weights.
Spoiler alert: the Onebed mattress has multiple firmness options, meaning it will accommodate various sleeping positions across most weight groups.
Onebed 10” Mattress for Side Sleepers
Side sleepers prefer mattresses with a medium to medium-firm feel. These mattresses ensure a good level of plushness, which is necessary to alleviate pressure points around the shoulders, hips, and knees while being supportive enough to keep the spine aligned.
Our Onebed mattress review shows that side sleepers weighing 60 kg and below prefer having the memory foam layer on top. Those who weigh more than 60 kg will enjoy the Onebed mattress in its original configuration because it provides more “give” while ensuring good spinal support.
Onebed Mattress for Back Sleepers
Back sleeping is the best sleeping position because it keeps your spine evenly aligned by preventing unnatural curves. Depending on their body weight, people who sleep on their backs prefer a medium, medium-firm, or firm mattress. The original Onebed mattress is a good choice for back sleepers across all weight categories.
Back sleepers weighing 60 kg and below will enjoy sleeping on the Onebed in its medium setting (memory foam layer on top). The medium-firm configuration will favour back sleepers weighing between 60 and 105 kg. Consider the firm setting (polyfoam layer on top ) if you weigh close to 135 kg.
Onebed Mattress 10” for Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers require a mattress with a mix of firmness and support. The mattress needs to be firm enough to hold the spine in neutral alignment yet contouring enough to cushion the chest, stomach, and hip area.
The Onebed mattress, with its three firmness settings, gets positive feedback from stomach sleepers across all body types. Lightweight individuals (below 60 kg) say the medium profile was supportive enough for them. Those between 60 and 105 kg say the medium-firm setting balances comfort and support. The firm setting of this mattress may accommodate heavyweight stomach sleepers weighing up to 135 kg.
