An online-only bed-in-a-box mattress currently available in Australia and the UK made with three layers of foam and a removable and washable cover. The Ergoflex 5G is popular among individuals looking for a Tempur-like mattress at a cheaper price point. The Ergoflex 5G trial is on the shorter side compared to its competitors at only 30 days.
Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress Firmness
Ergoflex has designed the 5G memory foam mattress to mimic the market-leading Tempur mattress. Just like Tempur Sealy, Ergoflex does not provide a firmness score for the 5G.
When doing this Ergoflex 5G mattress review, we found this mattress to be at the top end of the medium-firmness level. We rated it 6.7 on the 10-point mattress firmness scale.
This firmness level provides a mattress with moderate sinkage than a true medium-firm mattress, often rated 6.5. That said, this is a good firmness level if you love the hugging feel of memory foam but would prefer not to sink deep into the mattress materials.
Note that it’s quite a challenge to nail the exact firmness level of a mattress. How firm the mattress feels for you will vary, depending on your weight, room temperature, and how long you remain in one sleeping position So, based on these factors, you may find the Ergoflex 5G either firmer or softer than we perceive it to be.

Who is the Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress For?
For this Ergoflex 5G mattress review, we relied on our experience and customer feedback on productreview.au and TrustPilot to determine who would like it.
Ideal for:
Lightweight to average-weight back and stomach sleepers
Heavy side sleepers
Tempur-pedic mattress lovers looking for a more affordable option
Hot sleepers who want a breathable memory foam mattress
Individuals suffering from back pain, fibromyalgia, and joint problems
Couples looking for a good mattress for light sleepers
Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress Layers
The Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress consists of 3 layers of foam. This is a departure from the four-layer design common in memory foam mattresses in its price range. And it’s not bad- in our opinion. For one, this three-layer design is partly responsible for the medium-firm feel that the Ergo 5G mattress provides. The design also positively impacts other key aspects of a good mattress, including edge support, breathability, and durability.
From the top going down, here’s the anatomy of the Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress:
Cover- removable and machine washable outer cover made of a blend of 41% Tencel and 59% polyester. We appreciate that Ergoflex decided to go with Tencel for this cover. Tencel Lyocell is an environmentally friendly fabric obtained from sustainably sourced eucalyptus trees. It’s an extremely versatile fabric in clothing and bedding items partly because of its soft, silky feel, which makes it non-irritating to sensitive skin. Tencel is also naturally hypoallergenic and breathable, so it comes in handy in terms of temperature regulation.
This mattress cover's white and grey tone gives it a simple and clean look. The cover unzips from the bottom and can be removed for machine washing at 30 degrees. We wish it unzips from the side, considering the weight of the mattress. But the fact that it’s removable is a huge bonus by itself.
Protective inner cover- a thin protective stocking that holds the three layers together when you remove the outer cover for washing. Some people say that removing this stocking helps with temperature management. But keep in mind that it also voids the mattress warranty.
Comfort layer- a 9-centimetre slab of high-density memory foam. Ergoflex previously claimed to use 85 kilos per cubic metre of memory foam for this mattress. But they no longer publish that information. In our Ergoflex 5G mattress review, we found the entire mattress to have an average of 50 kilos per cubic metre. Most all-foam mattresses today average 40 kilos per cubic metre. This clearly shows that the Ergoflex 5G mattress is denser, meaning its top layer conforms closely to your body to offer pressure relief. A high-density foam also means that it will retain its firmness for longer.
Transition layer- a 5cm Cool-Sleep airflow system to transition your weight to the firm core support below. Similar to Tempur-Pedic mattresses, this layer has a convoluted design that's meant to allow air to flow between the layers of foam. While it's a good design, we feel there's only so much that this spikey layer can do in terms of temperature management.
Core support- 9 centimetres of high-resilience foam. This high-density layer is firmer than the other two, and it needs to be because it's responsible for supporting the weight of the top layers plus the sleeper. Its high-density score also means it can withstand higher pressure without losing its structural properties.
The 3 layers of foam give the Ergoflex 5G a height of 23cm. Ergoflex says that this mattress is manufactured to British safety standards. The three foam layers are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning that they are made without a variety of potentially hazardous components, like phthalates, formaldehyde, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. The Tencel cover is OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it has passed a rigorous test to ensure it's safe for human use.
Is the Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam a Good Mattress?
With the 5G mattress, Ergoflex offers a more affordable alternative to the Tempur-Pedic beds. Based on Ergoflex 5G mattress reviews on productreview.com.au, most users report that it's very comfortable and supportive. And that is despite costing a third of Tempur-Pedic prices.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress cooling
We have not seen a lot of Ergoflex 5G mattress complaints regarding overheating. Actually, most people report that they sleep much cooler than they expected. However, owing to its all-foam construction and the 9cm memory foam comfort layer, this mattress may trap body heat. But this will especially affect individuals who sleep exceptionally hot at night and stomach sleepers above 105 kg.
Memory foam mattresses are generally notorious for sleeping hot. But the Ergoflex 5G beats most competing models thanks to its convoluted transition layer and the Tencel cover, which is fairly breathable.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress back pain
Ergoflex has engineered the 5G purposely to pit against the Tempur-Pedic mattresses in terms of pressure relief. Going through Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress reviews online, you'll realise this is one of the areas it's highly rated for.
We expect the Ergoflex 5G to relieve back pain in most sufferers weighing 105 kg and below. Because of its high-density construction, the memory comfort layer contours evenly to your body shape to cushion your upper and lower back, align the spine, and relieve pressure points for side sleepers. The transition and core support layers provide some pushback to maintain a flat sleeping surface.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress motion isolation
If your main issue when buying a mattress is your partner's movements at night, then the Ergoflex 5G is fantastic for you. All-foam mattresses, particularly memory foam beds, excel at absorbing and localising movements, and the Ergoflex 5G is no exception.
As your sleep partner climbs onto the bed or turns during sleep, the energy from their movement dissipates through the foam layers. For that reason, even the lightest sleepers are less likely to be disturbed by their sleep partners' constant movements. And because it has no coils or any other metallic components, the Ergoflex 5G is very quiet.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress edge support
We've reviewed hundreds of mattresses of all types, and all-foam mattresses score particularly poorly regarding edge support. However, the Ergoflex 5G beats most of its memory foam competitors in this area thanks to its high-density construction.
There's no doubt you'll experience some sinkage along the edges. But this mattress's high-density and medium-firm feel means you'll still experience a good amount of support, especially if you weigh 105 kg and below.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress for sex
Our review of the Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress found it a good choice for intimacy compared to most competitors. But that comes down to what makes a good mattress for sex, in your opinion.
The Ergoflex memory foam mattress lets you sink in slightly, making it easy to maintain sex positions for long. Its conformability also provides decent traction. And because there's no wasted energy (no bounce), you can expect your trips to pound town to be more efficient. Also, because it's quiet, the Ergoflex 5G will never betray you.
If you think a good mattress for sex should be bouncy, then the Ergoflex won't work for you. Also, if you're the type that loves trying multiple positions per session, the memory foam layer can make it harder to move around.
Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress off-gassing
All bed-in-a-box memory foam mattresses emit a chemical-like smell after being unwrapped from the vacuum packaging. This unpleasant odour is the result of tiny volatile organic compounds (VOCs) escaping into the air. While these chemical smells are unpleasant, they are not toxic or dangerous to most people. This is true, especially for a mattress like the Ergoflex 5G that are CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX certified.
A small percentage of people say that these odours cause headaches and eye and nose irritation. You can avoid these side effects by allowing your mattress to air out for 2-7 days in a well-ventilated room before lying on it.
Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress Sleeping Styles
As with any other mattress, whether the Ergoflex 5G is worth it will depend on your weight, build, and sleeping position. But judging by its medium-firm feel and all-foam construction, we can tell that this mattress is meant to cater to a wide range of sleepers. The next part of this Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress review sheds light on how it feels to sleep on this mattress across all sleeping positions.
Ergoflex 5G Mattress for Side Sleepers
This mattress's all-foam construction and medium-firm feel suit most side sleepers well. However, our Ergoflex 5G mattress review showed that side sleepers who weigh 60 kg and above would find it more comfortable. This is because the 5G is slightly firmer. Individuals need to be heavy enough to sink into the comfort layers and maintain proper spine alignment.
Ergoflex 5G Mattress for Back Sleepers
The Ergoflex 5G is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers that we have tested here at Mattress Verdict. People who sleep on their backs prefer medium to medium-firm mattresses. These beds provide an even sleep surface with minimal sag, thus keeping the spine aligned. But they also offer adequate cushioning around the upper and lower back. The Ergoflex 5G will impress average-weight and heavyweight back sleepers (60-105 kg). Lightweight back sleepers (below 60 kg) who prefer a firmer mattress will also enjoy the Ergoflex 5G.
Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress for Stomach Sleepers
People carry most of their weight around their midsection and hips. Therefore, stomach sleepers generally prefer a mattress with a lot of support to prevent their midsection from sinking deeply into the mattress. While a firm mattress is ideal, stomach sleepers also want cushioning for their chest area.
For this reason, most stomach sleepers below 105 kg will appreciate the Ergoflex 5G because it's medium-firm but tends to lean more on the firmer side. Because memory foam mattresses soften with time, stomach sleepers above 105 kg may feel that the level of support reduces so soon.
Ergoflex 5G Memory Foam Mattress Prices and Sizes
The Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress is designed in Australia but manufactured in China. It's available in six mattress sizes;
Single 92cm x 188cm x 23cm
Long single 92cm x 203cm x 23cm
King single 106cm x 203cm x 23cm
Double 137cm x 188cm x 23cm
Queen 152cm x 203cm x 23cm
King 183cm x 203cm x 23cm
The cost of the Ergoflex 5G is slightly higher than what typical memory foam mattresses come at. But that's because it's engineered to compete with the pricey Tempur brand. Interestingly, the Ergoflex 5G is 2cm deeper than the equivalent Tempur mattress, yet it comes at a third of the price of the Tempur. Also, Ergoflex often offers several hundred dollars worth of discounts during holidays and major shopping days.

Ergoflex Trial and Return Policy
The Ergoflex 5G mattress comes with a 30-night trial, starting on the delivery day. This trial period is too short considering that some online brands offer 120-365 days. But it takes 14-21 days to break in a new mattress, so 30 nights isn't too bad.
If the Ergoflex 5G mattress doesn't work for you after 21 days, Ergoflex offers free returns in some locations. They will pick it up from your address free of charge.
Ergoflex 5G Mattress Shipping
Ergoflex offers free shipping for its mattresses for most locations around Australia. This is a bed in a box, meaning it's compressed, vacuum-sealed, packed into a bag, and shipped to your doorstep.

For most customers, Ergoflex offers next-day delivery, depending on their location and product availability. Otherwise, shipping takes 3-5 business days.
Ergoflex Warranty
You get a 10-year warranty with the Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress. But the cover is covered for 2 years.
Our Mattress Verdict
That's it for this Ergoflex 5G memory foam mattress review. Overall, considering its price level, the Ergoflex 5G is a good value mattress. Its medium-firm feel is ideal for most people across all weight categories and sleeping styles. It's slightly more expensive than a standard memory foam mattress. But its high-density foam construction means you're getting a durable mattress that will remain useful for a long time. 7-10 years.
Our only complaint is the short trial period. But it only takes around 3 weeks to break in a new mattress. So, if you're looking for the best Tempur-Pedic mattress alternative in Australia, definitely give the Ergoflex 5G a try.
