Nolah started by finding a way to improve upon Memory Foam — outdated materials that are still commonly used in mattresses today. Being a technology driven company, it was essential for Nolah to leverage the latest technology to design a superior mattress. The result, after testing hundreds of foam formulations is the Nolah AirFoam™ mattress.

Firmness 3 Firmness Options

Who is Nolah best for?

With their use of advanced AirFoam™ technology, Nolah has become a leading "bed in a box" company worth considering for those in the market for a supportive and cooling mattress. In this Nolah mattress review, we will delve into the details of its construction, firmness and best features. Let’s start with which sleepers will find it an ideal fit.

This Nolah Sleep hybrid mattress caters to a range of sleepers, including:

  • The Nolah Evolution was designed specifically for side sleepers

  • People who weigh 230 pounds or less

  • Sleepers needing pressure relief from back or other body pains

  • Hot sleepers

  • Couples needing a mattress with great motion isolation

Nolah Mattress Firmness

The Nolah Evolution 15 comes in three firmness options, so you can choose the cushioning level that works best for you. The individually-wrapped coils provide full-body pressure relief, spinal alignment, and lumbar support. If you want a premium mattress with above-average thickness, the Nolah evolution mattress is a great option. Based on Nolah mattress reviews, this bed features targeted pressure-relieving support. You can choose between three firmness levels: plush, luxury firm, and firm.

  • The plush option falls between a 4 and 5 on the firmness scale. It has deep body contouring and is best for side sleepers. It is supportive, but you will sink into the bed. The plush bed is exceptionally soft but may not offer the most relief for back and stomach sleepers.

  • The luxury firm option is between 6 and 7 on the firmness scale. It is the most popular option, and it mimics beds found in 5-star luxury hotels. Based on Nolah mattress reviews, 83% of customers prefer this option.

  • Lastly, the firm option is rated an 8 on the fitness scale. It provides maximum support and is perfect for pain-free sleeping

Nolah Construction

Made in the USA, the Nolah mattress offers nine layers of comfort at a price that reflects the quality of the materials and construction. The Nolah mattress layers include:

Is the Nolah Evolution 15 a good mattress?

Each mattress design is created with a specific focus on important performance factors for sleepers. Cooling, pressure relief, and motion isolation are all just some of the key factors that should be considered when searching for a new mattress. As a high-end hybrid mattress, we ensured that our Nolah mattress review carefully evaluated the mattress's advantages to justify its price. So let’s get started!

Pressure Relief

Yes, the Nolah Evolution 15 was specifically designed to target back pain and alleviate pressure points. All Nolah mattresses are designed with this in mind however its hybrid line does an especially good job due to its combination of foam and coil construction.

Its construction includes several layers of foam, including a top layer of the company's proprietary AirFoamICE, which is designed to provide pressure relief. This layer is followed by a layer of high-resilience foam and a layer of supportive base foam, which work together to provide contouring support for the body and alleviate pressure points. Meanwhile the HDMax™ Tri-Zone™ coils provide targeted relief at vulnerable pressure points. The individually-wrapped coils respond to movement and will distribute your weight, allowing proper spinal alignment for every type of sleeper.

Nolah Mattress Cooling

It's important to keep in mind that the Nolah mattress is a hybrid mattress, which generally sleeps cooler than memory foam mattresses. Moreover, Nolah Sleep has worked hard to ensure their Nolah beds have exceptional cooling properties.

The Nolah Evolution 15 is designed with several cooling features to help regulate temperature and prevent overheating during sleep. The top layer of the mattress is made with Nolah's proprietary AirFoamICE, which is designed to promote airflow and dissipate heat. This layer is infused with gel particles, which help to absorb and dissipate body heat, which should do a good job of keeping you cool.

Additionally, the cover of the Nolah Evolution mattress is made with a phase-change material that is designed to actively regulate temperature. This material absorbs and releases heat as needed, helping to keep you cool when your body temperature rises and warm when it falls.

Overall, the AirFoamICE layer and the phase-change material in the cover work well together to offer great cooling and temperature regulation. This is also something that we noticed repeatedly in many Nolah Evolution reviews, with many people praising these cooling features.

Nolah Motion Isolation

The Nolah hybrid mattress has exceptional motion isolation capabilities, making it an ideal choice for couples or light sleepers. While polyfoam is known to have more bounce than memory foam, the AirFoam technology used in the Nolah Evolution 15 is effective at absorbing movement from sleepers, minimizing motion transfer across the surface of the mattress.

However, it's worth noting that the Nolah mattress doesn't completely eliminate motion transfer. Unless you're an extremely light sleeper, you're unlikely to experience any significant sleep disruptions. Overall, the Nolah Evolution 15 is an excellent choice if you're looking for a mattress that offers minimal disturbance to your sleep.

Nolah Edge Support

The Nolah Evolution 15 mattress has a sturdy edge support system that will help prevent excessive sagging when you sit or lie near the edge of the mattress. The transitional layer and thick support core, coupled with the 13.75 gauge perimeter coils, work together to reinforce the perimeter, while boosting overall durability and improving edge support.

For sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds, you might find it harder to get in and out of bed comfortably due to its medium firm feel. Additionally, some sleepers may feel less secure lying near the edges and may prefer to remain in the middle of the mattress.

Is Nolah Mattress good for sex?

The Nolah mattress has a hybrid/foam construction, which gives it both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to sex. The foam components of the mattress provide less responsiveness compared to an innerspring, but the inner coil system provides decent bounce that can still suit many couples.

One advantage is that the foam construction makes the mattress virtually silent, which can be great for those who are worried about squeaking. Additionally, the Nolah Evolution has a great cooling system that can help keep you cool during intimate moments.

However, the decent edge support of the mattress may make it feel smaller, and you may not feel comfortable rolling around too much for fear of falling off the mattress. Overall, the Nolah mattress can be a good choice for couples, but may not be the best option for those who prioritize bounce and edge support.

Nolah Mattress Off Gassing

Due to its foam construction, you can expect that the Nolah mattress will emit an odor right after unpacking. This odor is harmless and will dissipate after 24-72 hours.

Sleeping Positions

The Nolah Evolution is a bed that you can customize to your liking with three different firmness options. That means you can pick the one that works best for your preferred sleeping position. In this section of our Nolah Evolution 15 review, we'll take a look at each sleeping style and see how the Nolah mattress fares for each one.

side sleeper icon
Nolah mattress for side sleepers

Yes, the Nolah Evolution 15 was actually designed specifically in mind for side sleepers. The softest firmness, “Plush” is a great option for side sleepers. The medium-soft firmness level provides the perfect balance of support and comfort, allowing side sleepers to sink in just enough to maintain proper spinal alignment while also keeping their bodies adequately supported throughout the night. It features a unique blend of pressure-relieving foam layers that contour to your body's curves and help reduce pressure points, especially around your hips and shoulders, which is essential for side sleepers.

Like most mattresses, it’s not enough to take into account your sleeping style but also your weight. Nolah mattress side sleepers are best suited to those who weigh less than 130 lbs and prefer a softer feel from their mattress. Sleepers weighing between 130 - 230 lbs might also enjoy it but will experience a bit more sinkage in the hips and shoulders. Anyone weighing more than that will find the mattress far too soft and should look into one of the firmer options instead.

back sleeper icon
Nolah mattress for back sleepers

Due to its multiple firmness option, the Nolah Evolution works for a variety of sleepers - not only side sleepers. The Luxury Firm and Firm options would work well for back sleepers. Back sleepers typically need a mattress that is firm enough to support their spine's natural alignment while also allowing for some sinkage to reduce pressure points.

For back sleepers, we would recommend either the Luxury Firm or Firm option, depending on your preference and weight. For sleepers weighing more than 230 lbs we recommend the firmness option. If you fall somewhere below that weight you can go either way between the medium or firmest option. The Luxury Firm provides a great balance of support and comfort, while the firm option offers a more solid feel that can help prevent back pain for those who require extra support.

stomach sleeper icon
Nolah mattress for stomach sleepers

Stomach sleepers typically require a firmer mattress to prevent their hips from sinking too deeply, which can cause discomfort and strain on the lower back. While the Nolah Evolution 15 does offer a firm option, it may not be firm enough for some stomach sleepers, especially those who are heavier. If you’re a plus-size sleeper, check out our best mattresses for heavy people.

That being said, the Nolah Evolution 15's medium-firm and firmest options can still work well for some stomach sleepers, especially those with a smaller body frame. This firmness level provides enough support to keep the spine aligned while still allowing for some sinkage so that you still feel comfortable.

Nolah Mattress Prices and Sizes

Nolah Evolution is a luxury hybrid bed, but it is worth the splurge. The Nolah mattress price reflects the technology, design and premium materials used to construct this bed. Though it isn't one of the more economical options we've reviewed, Nolah mattress reviews still recommends that this luxurious hybrid mattress is worth the cost due to its strong cooling capabilities, pressure-relief for back pain, and customization, making it ideal for different body types, preferences and sleep positions.
